Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simoni said he regretted his clash with Liverpool fans at the end of the Champions League dramatic match in Anfield, but he revealed that he had sparked the “insults” he received throughout the match.
Virgil Van Digk, late in Liverpool, won after Atletico resisted from two goals to the game level, ignited the touch line that led Simoni’s entry into an argument with the fans behind his hideout.
The rulers had to interfere at the flash point before Simon was sent by the referee Maurizio Mariani.
“They were screaming through a full game”
Simon said: “When they scored the third goal, he turned and insulted me. I am a person, I am a human being.”
When they were asked about insults, Simon added: “They were screaming in the entire game from behind the bench and I could not say anything because I am a coach.
“It is clear that my reaction has nothing to justify, I insulted him. But it was 90 minutes of insult all the time and then turned, when your opponent is scoring, and still insults you. This is not that easy.
“I will not go into the accurate nature of insults. I don’t want to enter this discussion. I know what happened behind the manager’s seat. I cannot solve the problems of society at one press conference. I have to live with him because it happens all the time.”
UEFA will wait for the referee’s report before deciding any possible penalties after the Simeone Red Card, but ATLETICO coach said he hoped Liverpool will take a measure.
“I hope a team like Liverpool can improve this part,” he added.
“When they determine the person who did this, he must have his consequences.
“But the person who needs calm, and take insults, is me. In my place, you just have to take it.”
The accident came after Marcus Lorenti continued his impressive record in Anfield, where he scored two others to add it to the double that scored it in his only victory here in 2020 when Atletico resisted from 2-0 to the game level.
However, the Van Dijk goal has closed Liverpool’s victory and Fraas raised the touch line that witnessed the Simeone vision.
