Dennis, the former world champion, is receiving a suspended sentence after the death of the Olympic wife Hoskin

Olympic bicycle passengers and international champion Rohan Dennis received a suspended sentence on Wednesday about what he called a “tragic accident” that led to the death of his wife, his Olympic colleague Melissa Hoskins.

Dennis, 34, appeared in the Southern Australia Provincial Court in Adelaide, after he had previously acknowledged that he was guilty of a strict work that is likely to cause harm.

Dennis was arrested after he was wounded by Hoskins, 32, by his car in front of their house in Medeni, North Adelaide, on December 30, 2023. Hoskins suffered serious injuries in the accident and died at Royal Adelaide Hospital.

The court was told that the couple had argued about the kitchen renovations before Dennis left their home and went away. The court also heard that Hoskins jumped on the car cover during the accident.

Dennis was sentenced to one year in prison for one year, four months and 28 days in prison for two years. The referee was reduced from two years and two months due to his approval of guilt and was placed on a good behavior bond for two years.

His license was also suspended for a period of five years.

The crime carried a seven -year prison sentence, but lawyer Jin Abe requested that her client receive a suspended sentence, which was not opposed by the prosecution.

While presenting the verdict in April, Amanda Hoskins said her daughter loved Dennis, “I know you will not harm her intentionally.”

“I think this is a tragic accident. Your nerves are your fall and it should be treated,” she said.

Hoskins’s funeral was held in its city in Perth, West Australia, and a general memorial service was held in Adelaide in February 2024. Dennis attended the service with their two children.

Hoskins competed in the 2012 and 2016 Olympics for the path in chasing the team and was in the team that won the world title 2015. Dennis won two international titles in the Time Time trial, as well as Silver in the team’s follow -up in the 2012 Olympics and Bronze in the Time Road trial in the Tokyo Olympics.
