Parliament Speaker Mike Johnson criticized the Democrats on Tuesday for adhering to the failure to pass the Stopgap bill that would avoid closing the US government at the end of the day.
“They” need to reach their senses here, and do the right thing, “Johnson, R. La, said during an interview with him on” Squawk Box “at CNBC.
He said that the senior Democrats – the leader of the minority in the Senate Chuck Schumer and the leader of the minority in the House of Representatives, Hakim Jeffrez – “drew themselves in a corner” by submitting demands in politics in exchange for passing the financing bill on Tuesday.
Johnson said that these demands are not related to the urgent need to pass this continuous decision.
Democrats insist that any continuous decision to maintain government financing in the short term includes an extension of reasonable, reinforced care tax credits.
These credits, which reduce the cost of health insurance premiums paid by millions of Americans who buy coverage of the ACA exchange, are scheduled to end at the end of 2025.
“If the government is closed, this is the decision to do so,” Jeffrez said during a later interview about “Squawk Box”.
“We are ready, ready and able to find a path from the two parties forward,” Jeffrez said.
But he said that the Democrats are not ready to support a bill that does not include health care protection.
“We will not support a party of a party’s party spending that continues to care for the American people,” said Jeffrez.
He said on Wednesday, “The notifications will start going out” for tens of millions of Americans about the higher insurance premiums that they will pay if the ACA benefits are extended.
“We are fighting to deal with the health care of the American people,” Jeffrez said.
