Postal transport companies throughout Europe are planning to suspend some shipments to the United States, where countries are preparing for the end of a long -term trade base.
Some shipments are scheduled to stop from Germany, Spain, France, Belgium, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Norway and Switzerland in the coming days and weeks after the president Donald Trump I signed an executive order ending the century “De minimum” exemption.
The trade policy, which is sometimes referred to as “a loophole”, allowed charges valued at less than $ 800 to enter the United States almost exempt from customs duties. This practice was set to finish imports from all over the world on Friday after Trump’s executive order.
The exemption from goods coming from China and Hong Kong, which has long been the largest part of these shipments, has ended in May.
The pendants will affect shipments of less than $ 800, and greatly exclude gifts and letters. Most countries have said that they should stop shipments because their systems have not been built for new requirements and they are not sure how shipments are properly processed under the new rules.
In a statement on Friday, the German international shipping company DHL said that Deutsche Post and DHL Parcel Germany will not be able to accept and transfer the parcels allocated to the United States that it said the main questions are still without a solution, especially with regard to the customs confrontation that will be collected in the future.
Customers will still be able to charge the goods via DHL Express, which is more expensive.
National Post offices in Spain, France and Belgium released similar notifications.
In a press release, the National Post Office in Spain said it was aware of the detailed requirements necessary to comply with the executive order on August 15 and had no time to change its systems.
“This position forces Correos, along with all postal operators who run the US -dedicated shipments, to significantly modify their operations and increase the shipping controls to implement the new customs requirements, which greatly affects international postgraduate services and e -commerce flows,” he said, adding that the comment has started on Monday.
He said he is working to resume shipments “as soon as possible.”
The post office in Belgium said it suspends the shipments that start on Saturday, while Lab Post from France said the shipments will be suspended from Monday.
Meanwhile, the Post Office in Finland stopped accepting goods to the United States on Saturday, but later added that he could no longer accept gifts or messages either because “several airlines now refused to transfer any postal materials to the United States.”
Transportation companies said They expect the pendants to be temporary. Temporary suspension may delay some shipments, but it is not expected to affect most international trade.
The adult retailers, local and international, do not tend to use the minimum exemption that often charges because they ship their goods through containers to US warehouses and pushing customs tariffs on goods. Two major exceptions, TEMU and Shein, who spread the minimum use and relied on them on the largest part of their shipments for American consumers. Since the end of the minimum goods shipped from China, The request has decreased For Shtis and Timo as Prices rose.
The hanging charges are expected to affect smaller requests from Americans who are shopping directly from the smaller European companies.
