Day Zero: Solarpunk Jam Games announces the winners of Game Jam

Trevor Noah’s Day Zero Productions and Anima Interactive announced the winners of the JAM, Day Zero Games: Solarpunk Jam.

Among nearly 200 participants from 35 countries, Solar Salvage, a game of building and exploring cars created by only three developers: Nattland Inactive in Sweden and 707 Heaven in Norway, won the grand prize of $ 10,000.

The final qualifiers include: Banyu, the comfortable sailing and absorption game developed by Hotfix Labs, a team from Indonesia; Sky Patch, which is a 3D agricultural platform and a puzzle adventure where players must revitalize the calm, floating islands, developed by Null Jam Games, an international team.

The winning matches will be shown during the Green Games at the Summer Games Festival, where it was broadcast on June 7 at 1 pm Pacific time, with a highlight of the next generation of creators who realize the climate.

“You can feel the desire for honest and optimistic games in Solarpunk Jam,” Dan Zbarskiki, head of games at the Day Zero Productions, said in a statement. “Teams from Indonesia, South Africa, Norway, Colombia and beyond dealt with, not only as aesthetic, but as support to involve the climate crisis with hope and creativity. Day Zero Games: Solarpunk Jam was launched on Earth Day, April 22, 2025, and ran until May 10, 2025, which represents a challenge to create preliminary models for Solarpung video games – a growing literary and visual movement that acts with radical optimism, environmental supervision, and social fairness.

“SolaPunk is still a somewhat emerging movement, and this game has helped push the movement forward, showing how video games can bring its example to life,” Carla Reyes, founder and creative director at Anima Interactive. “Games provide a unique fertile ground to explore the complications of climate justice, the elasticity of society, and the brighter futures – through narration, systems, aesthetics and active players.

The jam was carried out by Cinereach, a story laboratory behind famous films such as Marcel The Shell with Wild Southern Wild and Carmack Collective, a box that supports stimulating transformational change in seeking climate justice.

Before the game jam, the participants received a narrative scheme developed by Cinereach in cooperation with Good Energy, providing climate research and storytelling stories designed with inputs of scientists and front lines societies.

We are incredibly proud to link these projects alongside Day Zero and Anima.”
