David Lynch, one of the most beloved and influential directors in the history of American cinema, has died at the age of 78. The news was confirmed on Lynch’s official Facebook page with the following statement:
“It is with great sadness that we and his family announce the passing of the man and artist David Lynch. We would appreciate some privacy at this time. There is a big hole in the world now that he is no longer with us. But as he says: keep your eyes on the donut and not the hole. It’s a beautiful day with golden sunshine and skies Blue all the way.”
Lynch is best known for films like “Eraserhead” (his feature directorial debut), “Blue Velvet,” and “Mulholland Drive,” but perhaps his most famous work is the surreal murder mystery series “Twin Peaks,” which ran over a 12-month period. Two seasons in the early 1990s, it received a prequel story in the feature film “Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me,” and was most recently revived for an 18-episode finale in “Twin Peaks: The Return.”
Beyond his work in film and television, Lynch’s creativity also extends to the visual arts and music. He was a particular favorite among cinephiles for his deadpan sense of humor and charming personality.
