David Kojan, Executive Director of Weld Sports Media Rights, obtained the name of the first president of the new independent football regulator in the English language-a historical step in the government’s efforts to reform game governance.
Kojan was first recognized as the favorite candidate for the government in April, but his appointment faced a “full investigation” by the Public Appointment Commissioner, which is still ongoing.
Despite the audit, the Ministry of Culture, Information and Sports (DCMS) now confirmed his appointment for five years, which will continue until May 19, 2030.
Kojan attracted attention earlier this year after the deputies revealed that he donated money to the Labor Party – specifically to the leadership campaigns in Lisa Nandi and Mr. Kerr Starmer in 2020.
In April, Nandi, who is now the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Culture, Information and Sports, described Kojan as the “distinguished candidate” for this position, although he was not originally included in the initial brief list of three people.
A DCMS spokesman said: “The Culture, Information and Sports Committee has found the selected David Kojan to be applicable after the audit session, and we are now happy to move forward in announcing it as a president.
“It is very important that work continues to establish the organizer in a pace to enhance the governance of the national game, and for this we need a chair in the Post and set up a council.
“We have fully collaborated with the investigation by the Public Setting Commissioner and we are waiting for the report to be published.”
He calls political neutrality
Kojan appeared in front of the Culture, Information and Sports Committee (CMS) in May, where he assured the science of deputies of “total political integrity” and confirmed that he was “completely transparent” in announcing his previous donations.
The committee later supported his appointment, but warned that Kojan should make efforts to show independence from political influence.
At the end of it, the committee said that Kojan should “reassure the football community that it will act neutrally and politically.”
“The previous Kojan donations of the Labor Party will inevitably leave it open to the political bias in a job where independence is extremely important.”
Kojan later explained that the amounts he donated were “very small” and that he also contributed to “thousands of pounds” for various work deputies and candidates in recent years.
Nevertheless, he insisted on “his complete personal independence from all of them”, as he pledged full neutrality in his new role.
The appointment of Kogan is a great milestone in the government’s broader plan to create a legal regulator for English football, after years of debate about financial instability, club ownership, and failure of the in -game governance.
The new organizer will have powers to oversee the club’s financial affairs, ensure long-term sustainability, and to protect the heritage of football institutions-reforms supported by fans and MPS groups through party lines.
Besides Kojan, Mrs. Helen Stevenson and Simon Levin was appointed to the Board of Directors of the organizer, which is the leadership team in charge of forming how the body works in the coming years.
