Crowds of Syrians celebrate the New Year in Damascus liberated from Assad

Revolutionary songs echoed in downtown Damascus on Tuesday night, as Syrians celebrated the first New Year without Assad in power in more than 50 years. Umayyad Square in the heart of the Syrian capital was crowded with revelers who enjoyed fireworks, while gunshots rang out from Mount Qasioun overlooking the city.
