The fresh wave of Covid-19 is sweeping across parts of Southeast Asia, encouraging concerns about the return of the virus. Cities such as Hong Kong and Singapore are witnessing sharp increases in cases, hospitals consulting, and even deaths, which represents the first major rise in almost a year, according to Bloomberg’s report.

With countries like China and Thailand also witnessed an increase in infections, questions are asked about the spread of this wave – and whether India should be alert.

In Hong Kong, the Covid-19 activity has risen to the “very high” level, said Albert Oi, head of the infectious diseases branch at the Health Protection Center. The breathing samples that test positively have reached the highest point per year. The epithelium is visible in multiple indicators – high viral loads in wastewater, rise in hospital visits, and increase in severe cases and deaths. In the week ending May 3, Hong Kong reported 31 deaths associated with Covid-19.

The effect has already touched public life. The famous singer Eason Chan canceled his performance in Taiwan after his positive test of the virus, according to a statement issued by the official Weibo page.

Meanwhile, Singapore reported a 28 % jump in the estimated Covid-19, with a number of 14200 in the first week of May. Hospitals increased by about 30 % in the same period. The Ministry of Health noted this as the first important update in the country nearly a year.

The authorities indicated that immunity has declined as a possible driver, but confirmed that there is a “indication” that the current variables are more contagious or severe than before. It challenges the height, which occurs during the warmer months, the usual seasonal trends of respiratory diseases.

China is witnessing similar trends, with more positive test rates in hospitals than twice in the five weeks that preceded May 4, according to the Chinese Disease Control Center. In Thailand, groups of infections appeared after the Songkran Festival in April.

Regional health authorities are now urging the weak population to stay permanently with their vaccinations to reduce the effect of the wave.

India’s status
In the homeland, there is a little cause of warning. India’s reports currently 93 cases of Covid-19, according to the official driving panel of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. So far, there are no signs of a new wave in the country.
