The Colombia Army says 57 soldiers were kidnapped by civilians in the Michai Canyon area in the southwest of the country.
She says 31 soldiers were seized on Saturday, while the rest were kidnapped on Sunday by a group of more than 200 people.
The army says that civilians are acting under pressure from the monitors of the FARC rebel group who agreed to a peace agreement with the government in 2016.
The mountainous region is a major area for cocaine production and is still one of the most conflict in the country that continues with rebel groups.
In a video statement on social media, Brigadier Federico Alberto Megia said that four non -detailed officers and 53 soldiers were seized during the weekend.
“This is called the kidnapping,” he said.
Reports in local media indicate that the EMC Rebel group – the largest branch of FARC – may have ordered kidnapping.
EMC did not comment on this issue.
Micha Canyon is used to transfer cocaine to the Pacific Ports, then the drug is illegally shipped to other countries.
