Left President Gustavo Petro sympathized with the Senator’s family in a message about X, and said: “Respecting life, this is the red line … in solidarity with the Orbie family and the Turbay family. I don’t know how to relieve their pain.”

In a speech on Saturday night, Petro said that the investigation would focus on finding those who requested the attack.

“For the time being, there is nothing more than hypotheses,” Petro said, adding that security protocols will also be considered.

The United States Foreign Minister Marco Rubio said in a statement that the United States “owes the strongest possible terms to try to assassinate Urby, and blamed” inflammation discourse “for justifying violence.

Reactions flowed from all over Latin America. “There is no room or justification for violence in democracy.” “We condemn all forms of violence and intolerance.”

Both presidents provided solidarity to the Senator family.

In Colombia, former President Urby said, “They attacked the hope of the country, a great husband, father, son, brother, great colleague.”

Orepe, who is not yet an official presidential candidate for his party, is from a prominent family in Colombia.

His father was a businessman and leader of the union. His mother, journalist Diana Turai, was kidnapped in 1990 by an armed group under the leadership of the late Cartel leader Pablo Escobar.

It was killed during a rescue operation in 1991.
