Less than a month ago, Coco Gauff was at the head of the tennis world. A French hero is open. Now, it is at the bottom.
The 21 -year -old tennis phenomenon left its first round of Wimbledon starring Tuesday in straight groups to Dayana Yastremska from Ukraine, 7-6 (7-3), 6-1.
Yastremska ranked twenty -first in the world in January 2020, but she entered a Tuesday competition in 46th. Its best in the Grand Slam championship was the Australian semi -finals of 2024.

Gauff, who ranked second in the world, had a total of 29 uncomfortable mistakes and nine double errors. Meanwhile, Yastremska said it was “on fire” all day.

However, since the open era began in 1968, Justin Henin has only moved in 2005 and Francesca Shevoni in 2010 from the cup contract in Paris to come out directly in London.
Yastremska now has a record in the first round 11-11 in Grand Slams. In contrast, Gauff 20-3 was at that point, including the loss of Sofia Kenin in Wimbledon in 2023.
The deepest tour of Yastremska in Wimbledon was the fourth round in 2019, although she got the final event final in 2016. She recently reached her first grass, at a smaller event in Nottingham, which she said gave her confidence to all England club.
