Chrome update aims to stop unwanted notifications automatically

Chrome is getting a new feature aimed at reducing notification overload. If enabled, Chrome can now revoke notification permission for websites that the user has not recently interacted with. It’s an option similar to the automated actions that Chrome’s security scan takes for apps like the camera or location information. The new feature will be rolled out in Chrome on both Android devices and desktop.

Ironically, the browser will notify you when the site stops sending notifications. Once location permissions are revoked, the user can re-enable them through a health check or by manually restarting them from the respective location. If you don’t want Chrome to take these actions for you, you can turn off the Revoke Permissions option completely.

Currently, Google said that less than 1 percent of all notifications get any interactions from users. According to the company’s internal testing, it found that receiving fewer blanket notifications means people are more likely to click on the alerts they receive.
