Check the truth: Trump’s claim that the United States “supports” Canada by $ 200 billion

The Trump number has fluctuated.

Linking “support” to Canada to $ 100 billion in December. The following month, raised it to 200 billion dollars, then 250 billion dollars.

In a social publication actually this morning, he repeated the number of $ 200 billion. But none of these numbers is realistic.

Trump appears to be in a commercial deficit, along with what he calls “free” military protection and other unlimited things.

Commercial deficit is not support. This only means that the United States buys more goods than we do more.

The American trade deficit with Canada in 2024 was 63 billion dollars. If you get oil out of that, it is actually Canada that has a trade deficit (in other words, the United States has a trade surplus with us for most goods).

Putting a personality in the dollar will be more difficult. Canada has failed to abide by NATO to spend two percent of GDP on the army. Carney promised to meet this by 2030.
