US House Speaker Mike Johnson will be in the Ottawa region this week to gather his peers from most G7 and Ukraine countries.
The Speaker of the House of Commons, Francis Scarbalega, will host his counterparts from Thursday to Saturday as part of the presidency of the Group of Seven in Canada.
His office says that officials will be gathered “in the national capital area” to discuss the challenges facing legislators all over the world and the importance of parliamentary diplomacy.
The agenda of the meeting includes misleading online, political polarization and violence against legislators.
Canada chose to invite the Speaker of Parliament in Ukraine, as US President Donald Trump’s approach to ending Russia’s war on Ukraine has sparked the concern of European leaders.
The Office of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Annette Anand, says that it will host her counterparts – most likely, including US Secretary of State Marco Rubio – “in Ontario this fall.”
