India spends more cricket than science and that this gap raises difficult questions. “IPL revenues alone can finance new IITS, if it is taxed and redirected towards the search.

In the LinkedIn post, GROOR highlights the basic point of Shrivastava: India does not lack money, it lacks the will to invest in its scientific future. “Entertainment is supported. Taxes are imposed on research,” notes Shrivastava, noting the blatant contrast in how the country deals with its sports and science sectors.

The numbers are due. The IPL 2023 got 11,770 rupees, with the deployment of a surplus BCCI of 5,120 rupees.

For three years, profits reached 15,000 rupees. Shrivastava is 40 % on these profits, it can finance a new ten IITS or generate 6000 rupees annually to search – that is, BCCI does not pay any income tax with its charitable position.

Meanwhile, research laboratories pay the goods and services tax on imported equipment. Grover asks: Why are the tickets for the tax -exempt match while not the scientific tools? And why do institutions aim to push the struggle forward for money?

India’s research and development spending reaches only 0.6-0.7 % than GDP, much lower than the global average of 2.6 %. On the contrary, the United States spends 3.5 %, China 2.4 %, and South Korea 5 %. Half of the research and development budget in India still comes from the government, with limited special investments.

Grower does not argue against sports or entertainment – but calls for balance. “These money can also support the construction of the income for the poor,” he says.

For those who focus on inequality, his message is clear: “Do not question the top of 1 %. Help others to rise.”

While India celebrates Cricket, Grover and Shrivastava suggest that it is also time to invest in the long-term growth forces-science, research and education.
