Diaz and Fox sat down for an interview additional which dropped on January 16, where the “Back in Action” star shared her feelings about Foxx’s stroke.

Fox was in Atlanta filming scenes for the movie when he suddenly developed a headache and fainted. It was later learned that he had suffered a brain hemorrhage that led to a stroke, and the “Blame It” singer spent 20 days in a coma after emergency surgery. The 57-year-old also had to learn how to walk again at a rehabilitation center in Chicago.

Diaz and Fox have been friends for 25 years, and have starred in two other films together — 1999’s “Any Give Sunday” and the 2014 remake of “Annie.”

Diaz said Fox was brave when he shared details of his stroke on his Netflix special, “Jamie Foxx: What Happened Was…”

“For everyone who knew Jimmy, it was terrifying,” Diaz said. “For everyone who loves Jimmy, the world has been, like, everyone’s worried… I can’t even imagine what he’s feeling. I’m so proud of him, and how brave he was to come out with his show, to let all of us know. But you know, it’s It is difficult to approach him and he says to you: “Everyone is crying!”

Diaz says she was honored to work with Foxx

Diaz had been retired from acting for 10 years before Back in Action, and the actress credited Foxx with bringing her out of retirement. “To make solid films and to do it at that level and make something that’s entertaining and enjoyable for everyone, that was, you know, for me, I feel really proud to be able to do that with Jimmy.” He said.

The “Charles Angeles” actress is raising two children with her husband, musician Benji Madden, and as previously mentionedExplosionDiaz credited Foxx as “the only person” who could have gotten her into another film.

“I thought if I was going to come back and do a movie, the only person I was going to come back and do it with would be this guy,” Diaz said. “Seriously. I’ve had other opportunities along the way and I’ve always said, ‘No.’ I don’t do that, I told you…what? Jimmy asked? Jimmy? Oh, I could do a movie with Jimmy!”

Foxx promised Diaz they would enjoy getting back to work

Foxx said that in order to convince Diaz to say yes to the film, he was “humble” and promised her she would enjoy filming “Back in Action.”

“Listen, we were very modest in our request,” Fox recalls. “We were very respectful in our request. There were some promises. I was like, ‘I don’t want your feet to touch the ground.’ “I want this to be a fun thing for you to do.”

Diaz added that she really enjoyed making the film and noted that Fox delivered on its promises.

“But even with that promise, which he backed up, he took good care of me. It was really about the fact that I knew that if I was going to be gone for 10 hours a day, I would be leaving my family, who I was going to have, you know, to do work with,” Diaz said. “You know, the most talented guy in the entertainment industry, a great partner. I knew it was worth it to go no matter what and that we would have fun.”
