Kalshi, the prediction market provider, has filed a lawsuit against the Ohio Casino Control Commission and the Ohio Attorney General’s Office. The complaint was filed in the US District Court for the Southern District of Ohio in Columbus.
Seeking legal contest Judicial exemption from state law and restrictions applicable to the betting provider. This has been a matter of controversy across the United States and across multiple courtrooms that have heard pleas regarding this Calcchi should not be exempt from betting licensing laws.
Kalci recently took issue in a similar case In Massachusetts, the charges against the prediction market revolved around illegal gambling. The parties involved stated that the only way Calcchi could operate within the state’s borders was to obtain an official license to operate in accordance with gambling laws.
Calci is suing Ohio regulators and the attorney general
A similar story is unfolding in Ohio, where Calci claims they are exempt from the wrath of state regulators and that their actions are now causing reputational and financial damage.
Court documents state that the Casino Control Commission’s attempts “to cut off Calci’s access to millions of users and key operators, exacerbate the extraordinary harm that Calci would suffer as a result of the Casino Commission’s unlawful attempts at regulation.”
The state’s case says Calci is avoiding the usual path that includes obtaining a gambling license, and Calci should not be exempt.
According to a local Ohio news outlet Columbus DispatchCalci received a cease and desist letter from the Ohio Casino Control Commission.
In an October 6 letter, Matthew Schuler, executive director of the Ohio Casino Control Commission, said: “The Commission is not convinced that Ohio law is preempted by federal law as Calci claims. Therefore, to the extent Calci chooses to continue to offer unlicensed and unregulated sports gaming in the form of sporting event contracts within Ohio, Calci will be in violation of Ohio law.”
Legal commentator and gambling specialist, Daniel Wallach, posted about the case brought by Kalci on his social media channels.

This led Kalshi to say: “It does not house servers on Indian territory. Kalshi does not employ employees on Indian territory. Kalshi does not do any business at all on Indian territory.”
Whatever the status of Calchi, an important hearing on October 23 on a preliminary injunction in the lawsuit brought by California tribes against Calci and Robinhood in the Northern District of California could shape the future of the UIGEA and CEA.
