British billionaire Christopher Hoon cuts funding to left-wing groups

Christopher Hawn, British billionaire and Hedge fund manageris cutting funding to left-wing groups and causes after a report by Americans for Public Trust (APT).

The groups that received funding from the Children’s Investment Fund Foundation (CIFF), which names Hoehn as its founder and chairman, “lobbied for nothing less than the full extremism of the American political landscape,” APT said in its report.

CIFF, which is valued at $6 billion, “receives significant funding from Hohn’s activist hedge fund worth approximately $60 billion,” according to APT.

In response to FOX Business’ request for comment, CIFF pointed to its statement on the funding changes.

CIFF announced on Wednesday that it would redirect funding to non-US NGOs.

“Unfortunately, we are no longer confident in our understanding of the US policy environment for foreign funders of US NGOs, including international work, which is our focus,” CIFF wrote. “Accordingly, the CIFF Board of Directors has decided that, as a precautionary measure, and until the applicable laws and rules are clarified and implemented by the relevant authorities, CIFF should redirect its funding to non-US NGOs and restructure its contracts to be with non-US NGOs.”

The organization indicated in its update that multilateral institutions headquartered in the United States will not be affected by the transfer of their funding.

APT released a report late last month showing that CIFF funneled more than $553 million to U.S. organizations from 2014 through 2023. The funding went to groups that support causes like green energy and was used to fund climate-related lawsuits, as well as protests against the fossil fuel industry, according to the report.

APT also said the money was given to a China-linked group, known as the Rocky Mountain Institute (RMI), which is working to ban gas stoves. APT asserts that this is a violation of federal law prohibiting foreign nationals from directly or indirectly influencing American elections.

“Because there is little oversight and few restrictions on foreign giving to U.S.-based organizations, Hohn’s actions through CIFF are highly questionable and ambiguous. Further investigations are needed at the state and federal level to determine the extent to which Hohn and CIFF may have violated any foreign donation laws and regulations,” APT said in its report. He also called for reforms to prevent “undue foreign influence in American policy battles.”

In addition to environmental causes, the Fund has funded organizations that have pushed for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives, such as the New Ventures Fund (NVF). NVF has received $1.1 million from CIFF since 2016, APT reported.

APT said it compiled its report using annual reports from CIFF, tax returns for organizations that received money from CIFF, media articles, “additional electronic sources” and legal records.

Along with revealing the China International Furniture Fair’s funding of advocacy groups, APT also revealed the charity’s alleged ties to the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). As of 2017, the China International Furniture Fair has become a registered non-governmental organization in China, according to APT, which noted that various Chinese government ministries monitor the work of the China International Furniture Fair in the country.

“The British non-profit organization has given millions of dollars to various organizations directly sponsored by the Chinese government, including the National Renewable Energy Centre, the Foreign Environmental Cooperation Center (FECO), and Tsinghua University, which conducts energy and military research. CIFF is also a member of the donor steering committee for the Climate Action Transparency Initiative (ICAT), which works in China to promote Climate action. The ICAT final report on the China workshop was supported by CIFF, with several CCP officials contributing to its creation, the APT report said.

APT also reports that CIFF CEO Kit Hampton has “maintained what appears to be a cozy relationship” with “green” CCP entities.

The APT report lists the China Energy Corporation, the World Resources Institute, Rockefeller Philanthropic Advisors, the Natural Resources Defense Council, the 40 Cities Climate Leadership Group, the Sunrise Project, the Sustainable Governance and Development Institute, the Environmental Defense Fund, the Windward Fund, Ceres, RMI, NVF, and the ClimateWorks Foundation.
