It was strong, if there was no start for Blibon in the first league this season, Stephen Schumacher knows that there is still a job to be done.
“In general, the offers were positive,” says Wanders Schumacher coach Sky Sports. “In some aspects, we were really strong defensive.
“We have also created good opportunities and we have a lot of shots. Like any team, although we would like to be more clinical in big moments.”
The 41 -year -old Schumacher arrived at the club in January, but they made a mistake in the matches in May, and the reconstruction in the summer was necessary. In total, 14 new faces came through the door for this season.
It was important that it was important to activate a team that lost in the final of the first league match against Oxford United in the previous season.
“Some players left, and we brought new recruits, adding little energy and freshness,” explains Schumacher. “In the previous season, which he lost in Wembley’s final, it has already affected the team, and they did not start the season and also could have.
“For the club this size, the presence in the qualifying mix was not disappointing. When I came, we overcame those sites but we were unable to overcome the line. So our focus this season was to determine what we need to improve.”
Defense hardness in the heart of that plan. Last season, Bolton ranked eighth in the table but managed to end the campaign by a negative goal difference.
“The prominent issue was giving up many goals,” says Schumacher. “It was not a problem in creating or scoring goals, but leaving 70 goals on 46 very many games.
“We have focused on being the best defensive, more organized, and evaluating the importance of defense as one team. The first few games showed some good signs, but there is still great ability to improve.”
Six games in the campaign, Bolton mobilized seven points, and kept only one clean sheet. Six goals scored, six goals that were waived.
Schumacher knows that there is a work to do in the formation of his team and his side the way he desires.
“The best way to make players on this approach is to show interest to them,” he says. “When everyone realizes that eliminating fewer goals keeps you in games, even if you do not play brilliantly, they see how the entire team helps.
“The lower the goals you waive, the less pressure is to score several times to win the matches. The best teams give up the lowest number of goals, and this is what we need to simulate.”
The last full season of Rumacher at this level witnessed that Pleimmouth Arjil took the title with 101 points. This was a little more than two years ago, but he felt that he was on a personal trip since then, especially since he left Stoke City last year – which was his next station after the pilgrims.
“I personally think I have evolved by becoming more impatient,” he says. “In Argyle, we were very dilapidated, always playing on the front foot and moving forward at every opportunity, and we have succeeded because we have energy players to do so.
“In the tournament, you learn that you cannot play this way all the time because the quality of the opposition is higher, and it will punish you if you lose the ball in poor areas.
“Now I am more aware of what is happening in the transition and a little more organized behind the ball. It is about finding balance, or be patient without losing that attacking intention.”
The goal is now to reshape the Bolton team to suit its strategies. A little patience will be needed, but it is not under any illusions about the expectations of the club.
“You can not do everything in a single transfer window due to contracts and other factors,” he says. “From my experience in Argyle, it took a few seasons to get the gameplay and the individuals we wanted before we won the league and were promoted.
“Here, there is more pressure to achieve success quickly, and we do not have this type of time. But we move in the right direction.
“I see a lot of similarities in this group with the successful teams that I had before. They were designed, working hard, and they were well exposed.
“But there is no hiding from expectation. This club was in the first league for a long time. Under EVATT, the team approached several times, as it reached the semi -finals and the final, but last season did not go as planned.
“We know that we have to press for promotion, and at least compete for the matching matches this season.”
