Bolsonaro denies his involvement in the alleged coup plot

Former Brazilian President Gere Bolsonaro denied his involvement in an alleged plot to topple the current president of the country, Luiz Inosio Lula da Silva.

Speaking for the first time in court, Polsonaro, who ruled the country between 2019 and 2022, said that the coup was “something hateful” and there was “even the possibility of a coup in my government.”

Along with seven “participating conspirators”, the 70 -year -old is tried for the events that led to the storming of government buildings by his supporters on January 8, 2023, that is, a week after the inauguration of Lula.

The former president may face contracts in prison if convicted. He has always denied the charges against him.

Judge Alexander de Mora interrogated him in court on Tuesday about the alleged charge of plotting a coup, Polsonaro said the charge “does not withstand your happiness.”

In his speech, he said: “I only have one thing to emphasize your happiness: On my part, on the part of military leaders, there was no talk about a coup. The coup is hateful.”

“Brazil was unable to go through an experience of this way. There was not even the possibility of a coup in my government,” he added.

Bolsonaro was difficult for the presidential elections against Lula in 2022.

After Lula’s victory, Bolsonaro increased the wrong allegations that there were errors with electronic voting machines in the period before the elections.

The prosecution claimed that Bolsonaro’s allegations of voters’ fraud began early in 2021 as an excuse that could be used to interrogate a possible defeat in the 2022 elections.

In response to the court, Bolsonaro said he was not the only person who did not trust the electronic voter machines and said he acted within the rules of the constitution.

“I often rebelled, I swear. But, in my opinion, I did what to do,” he told the court on Tuesday.

Polsonaro is the sixth defendant who has taken the situation since the trial began in May.

The eight defendants are accused of five charges, which include an attempt to organize a coup, participate in an armed criminal organization, and have tried to cancel the violence of democratic law, severe damage and the deterioration of the included heritage.

Most of them have so far denied the charges against them.

Bolsonaro, former army commander and admirer of US President Donald Trump, is ruled by Brazil from January 2019 to December 2022.

He lost difficulty in the presidential election round in October 2022 against his left opponent, Lula.

Bolsonaro has not publicly admitted his defeat. Many of his supporters spent weeks in the camps outside the army barracks in an attempt to persuade the army to prevent Lula’s constitutional oath as president as scheduled on January 1, 2023.
