Boeing 787 Dreamliner cancels takeoff at the last minute

An Etihad Airways Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner canceled its take-off Melbourne Airport in Australia On Sunday for technical reasons, according to reports.

Etihad Airways flight EY461 from Melbourne to Abu Dhabi began accelerating on the runway at around 7pm before applying the brakes and stopping.

Etihad Airways told the UAE’s state-owned newspaper, The National: “The flight crew decided to halt take-off for technical reasons. The aircraft was safely stopped on the runway and emergency services attended as a precaution.”

The Sydney Morning Herald reported that a passenger on the plane said two tires exploded after the landing gear caught fire.

Etihad Airways did not immediately respond to FOX Business’ request for comment.

A Melbourne Airport spokesperson told FOX Business that emergency crews responded to the aircraft and deployed firefighting foam as a precaution.

The spokesman added: “All 289 passengers got off the plane safely and were transported by buses to the terminal yesterday evening.”

Once the passengers got off the plane, it was towed off the runway.

The accident forced officials to close the runway, which was not reopened until Monday morning local time after all inspections of the runway were completed.

Etihad Airways informed airport officials that it would rebook passengers on future flights.

Flight tracking website FlightRadar24.com It shows the plane’s path from station to runway, where data shows it reached about 170 mph before coming to a stop.

The plane’s manufacturer, Boeing, suffered one crisis after another in 2024 after the door of a Boeing 737 Max operated by Alaska Airlines flew off.

Boeing has also launched an investigation into whether some fasteners on its undelivered 787 Dreamliner planes were installed incorrectly.

“Boeing disclosed that it may have improperly installed fuselage stabilizers on some aircraft,” the FAA told FOX Business last year. 787 Dreamliner aircraft.
