It was solid, and if not expected, returns to the Championship of Birmingham.

Under the normal circumstances, it will be pleased with any team that was comfortable in the middle of the table after eight games of a new season.

But Chris Davis knows that he is a balance between realism with expectation.

“We have rushed well,” says Blues coach for Sky Sports. “The first step was to prove that we can earn points because we are not entitled to get anything. We are a team promoting from the first league. The last time the club was in the tournament, ended 22 and I think it lost more matches in five years more than any other team in England.

“It is a difficult league full of ambitious clubs and good resources. But we have shown that we can compete, pick up winning, lack of late goals and keeping clean papers. Now we need consistency. Perhaps the championship is the most difficult periodic in the world because the gap between the teams is very small. You can throw a blanket more than 15 of them.

“I wondered if we’ll set the ball, if we would be defensively strong, if we would face counter -attacks. What I saw is that we kept our style almost identical. At this level, the difference can harm you more quality in the last third, but otherwise football remained intact and encouragement.”

The scoring of goals was the problem. Only seven so far in the eight championship matches. Even when they scored two against Sheffield on Wednesday night on Tuesday night, this only led to Davis’s description as “sweet and passed” in nature – because they called for a tie at the last minute, but it was against a team that they must really do.

This late goal was one of the four who came in the 90th minute of the game or later. Davis knows it is a problem that needs to be addressed.

He says: “Our basic numbers in terms of what we create for what we give are strong.” “I feel that we were the best team in most of our games. But not taking opportunities happens, which is a state of training and confidence -building so that when those moments come in the games we take.

“Sometimes, players can be tense, especially with the noise surrounding the club. It is about finding calm in those moments to be clinical. What matters to me is to generate opportunities. If I continue to do so and not abandoning much, it will pass over time more than you lose. Some of the goals we have scored were good.”

When talking about the “noise” that surrounded Birmingham recently, the next match may be the most noise. They visit Wrexham on Friday night, with both Hollywood Glitz and attached Glamor, which still feels a little surreal to the EFL world.

The task is to claim three points, which is something that Birmingham only managed to do it once in the last five championship matches.

“It will be a great opportunity to get one of the best results we have achieved since I was here,” he says. “It is a big challenge, but something we will do is our best to achieve. Entering the international break with a positive result is always better because you have to wait for a long time in the next game.

“Whatever happens, we are in a strong position to run. We have to leave the opportunity.”
