Pelly Boston will get the first knight in the Rugby League at a special ceremony at Buckingham Palace on Tuesday – where he ended the waiting for 130 years for this honor.
Boston, 90, in 90 years, caught in a trail of black sports stars during the 1950s and sixties, with 488 games with Wigan and ended his career in his record of 571 Britons trying to name.
He also became the first non -white player to represent Great Britain in the Lions tour in 1954, where he scored 36 attempts in 18 games in Australia and New Zealand, and has a total of 31 international test matches.
“Persia Billy Boston is a historical teacher who provides appropriate recognition of the greatest players of the Rugby League that I have ever seen,” said Lisa Nandi Minister of Culture.
“In his capacity as a member of Wigan, this is a proud day for our city, for the Welsh nation, for fans of the Rugby League throughout the country, and most importantly for Billy and his family.
“The first player of the player in the Rugabi League is a long, late recognition of the game that has contributed a lot to our national lives. This is the moment we achieve a historical error.”
Boston achieved the first appearance in the Wigan experience against Barrow in November 1953, and by the time when the club left in 1968, he played in six finals in the challenge cup in Wembley, where he appeared on the winning side in 1958, 1959 and 1965.
Mike Wigan, Mike Danson, said he was “pleased” from the Boston Prize, describing it as “a richly worthy honor, which means that this is the most humble men truly receiving, in the end, in recognition of his extraordinary efforts.”
The honor of Boston was followed by a sustainable campaign by local advisers and deputies in addition to leading personalities in this sport, who referred greatly to the relative lack of recognition of the Rugby League compared to the federation, which witnessed 20 knights.
“On behalf of the Rajabi Football League and the Rajabi League, it is the honor to congratulate Sir Billy Boston on his knight,” said Tony Soton, CEO of the Football Association.
“Sir Billy deserves to be recognized as an initial figure in the history of British sport, for the way he overcame his bias on his journey from Cardiff from the working class to the legendary situation in Wigan, and he became the most abundant British scorer in the history of the 130 -year -old Rugby League.”
The Full King’s birthday honored menu is scheduled to be announced later this week. It is understood that the Boston Award was presented due to concerns about its health.
