Bill Haney shoots Norman Jr

Bill Haney finally broke the silence to start talking about his son Devin Haney’s chances against WBO welterweight champion Brian Norman Jr. on November 22.

Reducing the risk

Baba Hani downplayed Norman Jr.’s credentials, noting that this was the first time he had fought a “former champion” in his eight-year career. Then predict that Devin (32-0, 16 KOs) is about to capture his third division world title.

Bill looks nervous

You can tell that Bill is nervous by the way he works up the suds, and he refuses to threaten Norman Jr. He knows this could end badly for Devin. I just hope he doesn’t run around like he did in his last fight against Jose Ramirez. If he was going to get it anyway, he had to go out like a warrior. Losing this way would look bad.

He did not mention the two previous world titles that Haney had won. These are the “champions” that Devin beat to become a two-division world champion.

You see, Haney didn’t go through the killing phase to become a two-division world champion. It’s not worth mentioning the titles as actual belts because of who Haney won. It would be a different story if he got his welterweight titles against Gervonta Davis and his WBC light welterweight title against Gary Antoine Russell.

“You haven’t done this in eight years, and you haven’t even fought a former champion. Devin is the first champion that’s coming to fight you,” Bill Haney told True Media PodcastHe talks about Brian Norman Jr.’s defense against his son Devin.

Just because Norman Jr. hasn’t been given the opportunity to fight for world titles like Haney did, doesn’t mean he’s not an excellent fighter. If Bill had been his manager all this time, he would have done more by now.

“This is about the third division champion. He’s got the belt, however, he’s got it. I don’t care if it’s emailed. We’re in our third division, and we’re taking the belt from the champion,” Bell said, assuming Devin would knock out WBO champion Norman Jr.

Norman minefield

I have a bad feeling about this fight for Hani. He’ll be stepping into a minefield against Norman Jr. on November 22, and any wrong move will explode on him. He will be scattered everywhere.

He will certainly make a run for it, just like he did in his last fight against Jose Ramirez earlier this year on May 2nd. This approach will not work against Bryan Jr. because he has the reach and strikes and advances on his opponents quickly.

What we saw Norman Jr. do to his last opponent, Jin Sasaki, may be repeated against Haney. He knocked Sasaki out in the fifth round hard. I hate to say it, but this could be Devin’s fate come November 22nd.
