If you want to keep your teammates in good shape, you’ll likely gravitate towards the support class. Support players can quickly revive any downed teammate using trusty defibrillators, as well as dropping supply bags that restore health and ammo to nearby allies.

The support class is also very good in the lead position. Its signature weapon type is the light machine gun, or LMG, which is characterized by its high bullet capacity magazines, high rate of fire, and generally cumbersome frame. These weapons are great for suppressing enemies, slowing down their health regeneration.

There is a wide variety of LMGs in Battlefield 6, which means it may take some time to find the right fit for your playstyle. Some of these bullets are suitable for close-range play, while others may allow you to contest sniper nests over long distances. Here are my favorite LMG builds in Battlefield 6.

Best LMGs in Battlefield 6

There are eight different light machine guns in Battlefield 6, so don’t worry about options when it comes to bipod setup and bullet placement.

Most of these options are limited by high-level requirements or completion challenges, so it can be difficult to detect an effective loading process ahead of time. Here are some accessible LMG designs for every possible situation.

L110 “Factory”

The L110 is the first LMG you’ll unlock when you start playing Battlefield 6, and it serves as the sturdy workhorse of the gun. The high rate of fire and wide bullet capacity means you’ll be able to suppress enemies from a distance. However, this thing works like a mule unless you have a bipod.

To fix this, you’ll need to add the heavy extended barrel and handle bag attachments. These additions will make it easier to control vertical and horizontal recoil, giving you more mobility during tough battles.

The red laser attachment helps tighten the spread of hip fire in emergency situations where an opponent falls on you in close-range combat, and most importantly, enemies will not be able to see the beam emanating from your weapon.

If you’re confident you can handle the L110’s recoil, I recommend swapping out regular bullets for tungsten bullets — they’ll tear through multiple enemies at once when you’re holding a narrow line of sight, such as a doorway or doorway leading to a target.

M60 “Hunter”

If you participated in the Battlefield 6 open beta, congratulations: you can automatically unlock your favorite LMG when you open Battlefield 6 for the first time. The M60 is typically unlocked at player level 20, but beta players can use the special M60 Huntsman build right away.

This light machine gun fires slower than the L110, but its recoil is more manageable, and it deals more damage. As someone who loves setting up machine gun nests and picking off enemies from afar, the M60 has been the weapon I’ve used the most so far in Battlefield 6.

However, players cannot change the attachments on a pre-built gun before they reach the level required to unlock the original factory version. This means that you can’t switch attachments before the player reaches level 20, and you’ll be stuck with the awful sight-obscuring iron sights on the M60 until then.

Once you can swap out the gun’s accessories, the 2x magnification and red dot sight are an absolute must for shooting medium to long range targets. Set up an alternative magnification on the side of the gun with basic sights to replace the usual M60 eyesore with simpler iron sights when shooting enemies at close range. The dual-port brake and vertical grip help control what little recoil the M60 has, and the red laser remains on this design in order to tighten the spread of fire.

RPKM “carnivore”

If you’re not looking to build a machine gun nest, there are some light machine guns that support a more aggressive playstyle. The RPKM is one such weapon, with stats that make it look like a hybrid between a traditional light machine gun and an assault rifle. You can’t fire a ton of rounds before reloading, but you do get some much-needed sprint speed and hide the ability to move again.

The RPKM factory variant is locked beyond player level 30, but there is a much easier way to unlock this weapon in multiplayer modes. The RPKM Carnivore build is unlocked by completing Battlefield 6’s nine-level campaign. You can beat levels of any difficulty in order to unlock RPKM.

The RPKM matches the M60’s damage per shot and offers a higher rate of fire than my weapon of choice. All of this is mitigated by the LMG’s very low magazine capacity—the stock magazine holds 40 bullets—and very high recoil. You can use the RPKM to run and shoot alongside your Assault teammates, but you probably won’t win many gunfights over long distances.

Once you unlock the RPKM at level 30, an extended heavy barrel and some sort of vertical handle or bipod are must-have additions to your build. Swapping out the suppressor with a compensated brake couldn’t hurt either. These accessories will make the recoil more in line with other SMGs, providing you with a more controllable buzz saw.
