Former Team India pacer Ravichandran Ashwin spoke about wicketkeeper-batsman Ishan Kishan’s recent struggles. Ashwin expressed confidence that better days lie ahead for the young cricketer, hoping that he will regain his fitness and re-establish himself as a major contributor to the Indian cricket team.
Ishan’s cricket career has been marked by highs and lows. South made a name for himself with powerful, match-winning hitting. However, recent challenges have cast doubt on his international future, with his last appearance for India coming in a T20I against Australia in November 2023.
Ishan Kishan has been dropped from all teams and lost his BCCI contract in 2024
Ishan Kishan led the India Under-19 team to the World Cup final in 2016 and quickly announced himself in domestic cricket with a score of 273 runs for Jharkhand in the Ranji Trophy. His fearless batting style attracted national attention.

Kishan made his international debut in 2021 via T20Is and ODIs. He has etched his name in the record books as the youngest cricketer to reach two centuries in ODIs, scoring 210 against Bangladesh in 2022.
The left-handed batsman later featured in India’s Asia Cup win and 2023 ODI World Cup campaign, where India finished second. But things changed in late 2023 when he withdrew from the South Africa tour due to mental exhaustion.
The wicket-keeper batsman was subsequently dropped from all teams and lost his BCCI contract. He has struggled to impress while playing for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in IPL 2025. Kishan has raw talent but must pair it with discipline and perseverance to sustain success in the long term.
Hopefully things will turn around for Ishan Kishan-Ravichandran Ashwin
Ishan Kishan has withdrawn from the Test squad in South Africa due to mental exhaustion, Ravichandran Ashwin said. Ashwin compared Shreyas Iyer’s successful comeback and expressed hope that Ishan will regain his fitness and re-establish himself as a vital member of the Indian team.
“If someone’s time is not good, you can’t say much. What happened with Ishan was unfortunate. He was part of the Test team in South Africa but wasn’t in the right mental space, so he said he wanted to move away,” Ashwin said.
The Indian team respected that and allowed him to take a rest. Then, during the same series, Rishabh Pant was injured and was taken to the hospital. “It was bad timing and bad circumstances for Ishaan.”
“I sincerely hope things change for him. Like Shreyas Iyer, who worked hard and came back, Ishan should also score goals and come back stronger as an important part of the Indian team,” he added.

Rohit Sharma tops that list with his 264-run masterpiece against Sri Lanka in 2014 at Eden Gardens. The former Indian skipper hit 33 boundaries and nine sixes in that record-breaking innings.
