Automattic puts Tumblr deportation to WordPress in waiting

The CEO of Automattic Matt Mullenweg confirmed that the company is no longer working to deport the Tumblr blogging platform to WordPress, as it was previously announced. Share Exec News on Verge’s decoding unitIt was published on Monday, saying that the project was “suspended” for an unspecified period.

“We have not decided to focus on things that will be noticeable for users and that users are asking,” he told the website. “This was more like a bit of infrastructure, like any great architect. I still want to do it. It’s just cleaner. But now, we are not working on it.”

The advertisement also raises questions about the meaning of this for Tumblr integration with the open social web, known as Fediiverse. By deporting its infrastructure to WordPress, it could have become a federal application. Mullenweg admits that she was one of the arguments that this step follows, but indicates that it is no longer a priority.

“Meanwhile, I think if there is a big boost to implement Fediiverse, then we will only do so on the base of the Tumblr icon,” he said.

Mullenweg also repeated that Tumblr is not profitable, and is preserved from other automatic product profits. However, he said that he believes in the future of Tumblr and plans to give him the runway he needs to know things.
