At least 10 people were killed and 32 others were injured on Tuesday after a fire broke out at a hotel in a ski resort in western Turkey, authorities said.
The fire broke out at the Grand Kartal Hotel in Bolu County during the winter holidays for schools across the country, a time when families flock to ski resorts and other vacation spots.
NTV said rescuers were still searching the hotel for survivors, raising the possibility of a higher death toll.
News reports said the fire broke out at around 3:30 a.m. local time, when most residents were asleep. In an attempt to evacuate, some residents tied bedsheets together to make a rope that they used to get down to the basement. Video footage showed.
The cause of the fire was not clear.
Television footage showed smoke rising from a building surrounded by mountains with snow-covered peaks. Dozens of rescuers and fire engines were sent to the area from surrounding towns.
