After winning at The Game Awards, Team Asobi’s Astro Bot has now scooped another Game of the Year award – this time from New York Game Awards. During the ceremony on January 21, the adventure platformer won the Big Apple Award for Game of the Year, as well as the Tin Pan Alley Award for Best Music in a Game, and the Central Park Children’s Zoo Award for Best Children’s Game.
Other winners of the event included Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree, UFO 50, and Metaphor: ReFantazio. Indie horror film Mouthwashing took home the Hidden Gem Award, and Silent Hill 2 also won Best Remake. Troy Baker also won Best Actor for his work in Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, the first major award the December release has won.
The New York Video Game Critics Circle also honored Sam Lake with the Andrew Yoon Legend Award for his work on Remedy in its connected universe of gaming franchises. “It’s not often that you see a video game studio deliver a great sequel to a game a decade later, but it’s rare to see how it resonates with fans and births a world,” Ryan O’Callaghan, executive director of the NYVGCC, said in a statement at the time the recipient was revealed. Completely connected to its past franchises I don’t think anyone would expect anything less from someone like Sam Lake. He spoke with some of our students and trainees a few weeks ago, and it was enlightening to see where he draws his inspiration and the care that goes into crafting. Video game.
