Asia is poised to lead global polypropylene production capacity expansion until 2028

Asia is expected to be at the forefront of global increases in polypropylene production capacity by 2028. This growth is expected to be driven by significant investments in production facilities across the region. Asia is expected to add production capacity of 32.43 million tons per year from more than 70 new, planned and announced projects. The plant is located in Fujian Province, China, and is expected to begin operation in 2026.

In the Middle East, there are a total of 24 planned and announced projects in Iran, Turkey and Saudi Arabia, which are expected to add a total capacity of 9.75 million tons per year by 2028. The Sanay Yumurtalik polypropylene 2′ polyester plant represents the highest production capacity additions in the region. Each of them has a capacity of 1.0 million tons per year. Both projects are planned in Türkiye and have received the necessary approvals for construction. They are expected to be operational in 2027 and 2028, respectively.
