More and more People turn into fertilization in the laboratory, or artificial insemination, to have children. This process can be arduous, and it requires the injection of hormones expensive twice a day for two weeks to mature eggs so that they can be recovered from the body.
Gametup Startup New York aims to reduce this burden for patients by ripening eggs outside the body instead. The company’s method replaces 80 percent of the hormones needed in favor of traditional artificial insemination, which leads to shortening the length of the treatment cycle to a few days. It shows a promise to generate embryos and pregnancy, according to the new data issued by the company.
The ripening of eggs in the laboratory instead of the ovaries is not a new idea. In maturity in the laboratory, or IVM, it appeared in the nineties, but this technique is not widely used because it has less success rates than artificial insemination. During IVM, the eggs are extracted and planted in special cooking of nutrients and growth factors. With the Gameto approach, the eggs are tender with the “support” ovarian cells derived from the stem cells.
in Preprint posted on the InternetGameto showed that its product, called Fertilo, led to a high pregnancy rates of traditional IVM. In the first part of the study, 20 first patients received fertilizers to assess the safety of this technique. In the second part, they were randomly chosen 20 patients to receive either fertilizers or IVM. The ripe eggs were likely to develop naturally, as the ripening rate was 70 percent compared to 52 percent using the standard IVM.
When these eggs were then fertilized with sperm, fertilizers resulted in a more applicable embryos and a higher pregnancy – 44 percent of patients in a group of fertilizers after one treatment cycle, while 20 percent who underwent IVM. To date, the study has led to 15 continuous pregnancy, 13 fertilizer treatment and two IVM. One patient in a group of fertilizers became naturally carried after eggs retrieval and was not included in the final analysis. The study, conducted in Mexico and Peru, has not yet been reviewed.
“The idea of fertilizers is to bring a solution focusing on the patient, a solution that really can and makes it easier for people to build a family,” says Dina Radenkovic, CEO of Gameeeto and its founder. Radinkovic has already tested Gameto On her eggs– Not for pregnancy, but to know how good the fertilizer is in their maturity.
The ovaries naturally produce one mature egg per month until menopause. In the IVF cycle, patients inject high doses of hormones for 10 to 14 days to stimulate the ovaries in the production of many of them. The bullets cause mood swings, headache, and bloating, and in rare cases, a painful and possibly serious condition called ovarian hyper syndrome. In the United States, Midus stimulating ranges between $ 4,000 and $ 7,000 per treatment cycle, which can reach a third of the total cost of industrial insemination. Many patients need a few pregnancy courses.
With the Gameto method, patients take a day to three days of hormones, and then undergo egg retrieval. Eggs are incubated with ovarian support cells for about 30 hours. Gameto has developed a way to engineer these specialized reproductive cells of stem cells. “We are able to use these cells to re -create the ovaries outside the body,” says Christian Karami, chief scientific official at Gameto.
