Dave Allen’s spirited performance wasn’t enough as he suffered a unanimous decision defeat to Arslanbek Mahmudov.

Allen was looking to continue the momentum he built with a devastating knockout win over Johnny Fisher in May, but Khamudov produced a dominant display at the Sheffield Arena as the judges scored the bout 115-111, 116-110 and 117-109, all in favor of the Russian, although he was deducted two points for holding.

Encouraged by the home fans, Allen was trying to put his name in the picture for potential future bouts with the likes of Deontay Wilder and Moses Itauma, but Mahmudov’s strength was evident early on. He boxed well behind his jab and a solid right hand kept Allen honest all night.

Allen had his moments, successfully using left hooks to the body and the odd uppercut, but he could not take the attacks as Makhmudov quieted the crowd inside the Sheffield Arena.

Before the fight, there was a lot of talk about Makhmudov’s stamina, but as the fight continued into the final rounds, Allen was still unable to make an impact on Makhmudov, who continued to look strong until the final bell on his way to victory.

“He’s among the top 20 players in the world and I’m not. It’s that simple. I wasn’t good enough.”

“A night like this, how can I leave her alone?”
