Arsenal coach, Mikel Arteta, confirmed that Kai Havertz and Martin Odegaard are suffering from a disease that has found its way into the dressing room.

Havertz missed the New Year’s win over Brentford and, despite some initial optimism, was once again left out of the squad. On Saturday, they tied with Brighton & Hove Albion 1-1with club captain Odegaard also sitting on the bench.

With the visit of in-form Newcastle United on Tuesday in the first leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final, Arteta admitted that both Havertz and Odegaard are struggling with their fitness.

Arteta revealed after the match: “Kai tried but he was very honest and said: I can’t even train, I don’t feel good at all.” “We tried to see if he could train and do his best but he couldn’t do it.

“Martin didn’t train and said, ‘I’ll see how I feel’ (on Saturday) and he did his best to be here because we know the numbers we have.”

Arsenal infection The crisis worsened during the match as Ethan Nwaniri, who impressed in place of Bukayo Saka, was withdrawn at half-time.

“It’s really bad news because I think we’ve lost him,” Arteta said of the teenager. “We had to take him off at halftime due to some muscle problems.”
