The deadly protests were overwhelmed by Angola after a sharp rise in fuel prices. The demonstrators moved to the streets of Luanda and other cities in July to protest the increasing costs and exacerbate the living conditions. The police responded strongly, leaving at least four dead and more than 500. Human rights groups condemned the campaign and called for respecting the peaceful association. During the protests, Internet obstruction sparked more concerns about repression.
