“Sometimes, when you lose, you may think we will change the criteria a little for them (the players) to be with me,” he said.
“I didn’t – and they saw it. Now they understand when I say something, I will do it.
“I do not treat players as children. But they have rules now and they can change the way you are training.
“I am always at the top. If you don’t train in the right way, I have clips to show it. I show you in front of everyone.”
To enhance these standards, Amorim formed a leadership group of six men consisting of Bruno Fernandez, Harry Maguire, Tom Hitton, Dugo Dalut, Lezandro Martinez and Noser Mazrawi.
No regret
Amurim admitted that there were difficult moments when he wondered whether leaving the sport in the middle of the season was the right decision.
But he says that the decision of the Board of Directors to keep it, despite the ice collapse of defeats, was sufficiently reassuring.
He said: “Try to remember one team, a big team that lost many games, and the manager maintained his work.”
“You will not find it. This shows more than the words they support for me.”
While United’s struggles caused severe scrutiny, Amorim says he knew more dangerous pressure in an early life.
“This is not the moment I felt pressure in my life. I had to end my career as a player quickly due to injuries,” he said.
“I remember me and my wife I had an Excel with all the money we have and all the things I need. I want to help my family. I felt pressed at that time.
“Nowadays, it’s like something ego. I want to be Manchester United manager for a while.
“It took five years to choose this club. I don’t want to fail.”
When asked about the time he hoped to stay at Old Trafford, he answered: “I want to stay for 20 years. This is my goal. I really believe in it.”
Live line to Ratcliffe
Amurim also talked about his open relationship with the minority owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe, who publicly praised him as a “distinguished young manager”.
Amomim said: “We are talking on the phone, sending me messages, sending me mobile photos – (I) is joking.”
“It is really easy to deal with Jim. If you know your belongings, and how to explain any decision, you will be fine.
“I know that he is the club owner, I know my place. But when I need to say something, I am really direct.
“I think it’s a lot of love.”
Training before the season is resumed in Carrington on Wednesday. Four players – Alejandro Grancho, Jadoun Sancho, Anthony and Terrell Malassia – will continue to work away from the main group.
“Grancho is a really talented boy. But sometimes things do not succeed,” Amorim explained.
“You cannot explain what it is specifically. He clearly wants something different with a different leadership.
“They want new challenges. The market is open. I just work with the players I think they will stay.”
In the future, the manager has a clear goal.
“I know it is a huge gap from where we have ended – but it is Manchester United. We need to return to Europe,” he said.
Can United realistically dream of winning the Premier League and Champions League again?
“I have no doubts,” Amorim answered.
“There are some things that you cannot buy this club: lineage, history, fans. We have money without the Champions League.
“With all these things, if we have a different culture, we can return to our place.”
Signs of progress
The results in the pre -season season showed a glimmer of hope. In a 4-1 victory over Bournemouth, a team that included nine players from the Bilbao Final appeared more clear and more vibrant.
