In a significant development, Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) officials have confirmed that Afghanistan will not tour Pakistan for the upcoming T20 Tri-Series. In response, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is preparing alternative arrangements amid ongoing military tensions between the two countries.
Afghanistan and Sri Lanka are scheduled to tour Pakistan for the T20 Tri-Series from November 17-29. However, rising military tensions between the two countries have created uncertainty over Afghanistan’s participation, with reports suggesting they may reconsider travel amid the ongoing conflict.
Afghanistan’s participation is in doubt as the PCB considers alternative options
According to PTI, PCB president Mohsin Naqvi has asked the International Cricket Council (ICC) to prepare alternative plans to ensure the Tri-Series continues as scheduled.

“PCB president Mohsin Naqvi has asked the ICC to start working on an alternative plan as he wants to go ahead with the tri-series.” news PTI quoted a source as saying.
Pakistan is set to host a seven-match T20I series It includes Sri Lanka and Afghanistan from November 17 in Rawalpindi, and the final on November 29 in Lahore. However, recent bloody clashes along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border have caused a large number of casualties.
The Pakistani army reported more than 200 Taliban and other fighters killed while 23 soldiers were missing and 20 wounded. Meanwhile, Afghanistan claimed that 58 Pakistani soldiers were killed, with Foreign Minister Amir Khan Mottaki stating that Kabul had achieved its objectives and temporarily halted hostilities.
PCB invites Sri Lanka for three T20Is before the tri-series
The Pakistan Cricket Board has invited Sri Lanka to play three T20 internationals from November 11-15, ahead of the tri-series involving Afghanistan and Pakistan.
It is worth noting that the PCB and Sri Lanka Cricket Board are in discussions to arrange a three-match T20 series in Colombo from January 1 to 10.
If the series goes ahead in January, it could create a conflict with Cricket Australia, which has already signed several Pakistani players for the Big Bash League scheduled in December and January.
Babar AzamMuhammad Rizwan, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Shadab Khan, Hassan Khan, Harith RaoufHasan Ali signed contracts with BBL franchises. It is worth noting that Babar, Rizwan and Shaheen are set to make their Big Bash debut during the tournament.
“Obviously, if the series with Sri Lanka is completed, either the selectors will play without these players or the duration of their NOCs will have to be reviewed by the PCB, which will mean a rift with Cricket Australia,” the source said.
Cricket Australia contacts PCB after NOC suspends players
Following the recent decision by the PCB to suspend all NOCs of players playing in various leagues, Cricket Australia (CA) has reached out to resolve the issue. CA officials have reportedly confirmed that their franchises have already invested millions in promotional campaigns around Pakistani players in the BBL.
Meanwhile, UAE International League side Desert Vipers have signed three Pakistani players for next season.
It will be the only major white-ball series in Pakistan before the ICC T20 World Cup in January, when Australia tour the country to play three ODIs and three T20 internationals.
