Shaadi.com founder and investor Anupam Mittal has been making headlines for all the wrong reasons. In a recent episode of Shark Tank India Season 4, the entrepreneur and investor got into a heated argument with co-judge and OYO Rooms co-founder Ritesh Agarwal.

During the presentation by luxury goods brand Sneakinn, some ‘sharks’ mocked Mittal’s age, but a similar comment from Agarwal angered Mittal. He compared the brand’s business to that of diagnostics, something SUGAR Cosmetics founder Vineeta Singh found strange.

Hearing Ritesh’s explanation, Anupam laughed and said, “Aap bimaar jooton ki laboratory banayenge.” The founder of OYO Rooms said that we will take these people who are close to 60 together as sharks. Later, Anupam said, “Come on, who is your father?”

Needless to say, Anupam Mittal’s comments angered Reddit users and made him compare Mittal with Ashneer Grover, who is known for making terse remarks on the show.

One user wrote: “Abhi Ashner hota toh se reply to Anupam ko.”

“Vapas aa Jao Bully ashneer,” another user wrote.

“I don’t know why but Anupam took responsibility for being rude after Ashneer left… He thinks he will look great after all this but after all he is losing his fans and his authenticity… I feel bad for Ritesh Mann. “This innocent soul, everyone is making fun of him in a way… Or another especially Vinita and that idiot Anupam,” a fourth user noted.

“Looks like Anupam has taken responsibility for trp,” one Redditor noted.

Back on the field, founding couple Sahil and Arunima sought funding worth INR 90 lakh for a 3% stake in their company, taking its valuation to INR 30 lakh. They stated that there was a gap in the market as people did not have options to maintain, repair and renew expensive shoes and bags.

Despite Anupam’s attack, Ritesh offered the entrepreneurs Rs 45 lakh for 5 per cent equity and the remaining Rs 45 lakh as debt for 10 per cent. Vineeta and Anupam joined hands and made an offer of INR 90 lakh for 10 per cent equity along with 1 per cent proceeds.

Kunal Bahl, founder of Titan Capital, said that when someone asks for royalties, asking for them is equivalent to valuing your company at zero. However, the founders reached a deal with Anupam Mittal for INR 90 lakh for 6.5 per cent equity.
