A new DCU Batman has been revealed in James Gunn’s Creature Commandos

When Batman doesn’t appear on screen in any DC movie or show, all the other characters have to ask, “Where’s Batman?” This classic scene from “The Simpsons” This ended up proving a prophecy for many fans while watching “The Penguin,” the spin-off series set in the standalone continuity of director Matt Reeves’ “The Batman” movie… because, first and foremost, Never once has there been an actual appearance of Robert Pattinson’s Batman (for good reasonas it turns out). Despite this, fans have been looking forward to a very different appearance for Gotham’s Dark Knight. With James Gunn ramping up the new, tightly-knit DC Universe, it was only a matter of time before the most iconic masked vigilante of all time appeared on the big screen once again.

That moment arrived a little faster — and in a whole other medium — than most viewers expected. Those who were watching HBO “Creature Commandos”, the 2021 animated sequel to “The Suicide Squad.” We were treated to a very welcome surprise in the last episode. While the story mostly concerns the dregs of the DC Rogues Gallery, led by the adorable Weasel and his motley crew of renegades, the show’s writing team saw an opportunity to hint at the larger franchise surrounding these characters. In the process, they gave us our first official look at the new DC Universe Batman. In the sixth episode, titled “Priyatel Skelet,” a series of flashbacks show how scientist Alexander Sartorius was transformed into the radioactive Doctor Phosphorus (Alan Tudyk). The tragic tale ends with the villain being captured by Batman.

According to Gunn, it was this appearance that he didn’t take seriously.

Okay, let’s show of hands here: Of all the places James Gunn’s new take on Batman has debuted, whose “Creature Commandos” are at the top of his list? Confirming that this is indeed our first glimpse of DCU Batman, Gunn went on to explain how this scene turned out pretty much from its original concept:

“When they first gave me (the episode), we saw a lot of Batman. And I was like, ‘I’m not ready to commit to that, I’m not ready to commit to that, I’m not ready to commit to that.’ Committing to that. So I just said, ‘More silhouettes, more images Silhouettes, more silhouettes.” I think it’s a great way to show that Batman already exists, he already exists in this universe, just like when we come to the movie “Superman,” we see that Superman already exists, and he’s already known by the people of Metropolis I don’t need “To hear Batman’s origin story again is just a way to show that Batman is part of this universe, and he’s an important part of this universe, and he has an influence on it.”
