A hotel fire in a Turkish ski resort kills at least 10 people news

A fire broke out overnight in a hotel restaurant in a ski resort in Bolu County, officials said.

A fire broke out in a hotel in a ski resort in northwestern Türkiye, killing at least 10 people, officials announced.

Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya said that the fire broke out during the night in the hotel restaurant located in the Kartalkaya resort in Bolu district. He added that 32 other people were taken to hospital due to their injuries.

“Two hundred and sixty-seven employees from various public institutions and organizations responded to the fire and the response is continuing,” he wrote on the X website.

Speaking to Turkish news channel TRT, Bolu Governor Abdulaziz Aydin said the fire started on the fourth floor of the 11-storey hotel at around 3:30 a.m. (00:30 GMT). Hours later, firefighters were still working to put it out.

He added that the causes of the fire would be investigated by the authorities, noting that it broke out on the restaurant floor.

Aydin told the state-run Anadolu news agency that two of the victims died after jumping from the building in panic. He said there were 234 guests staying at the hotel.

Television images showed fire burning in the roof and upper floors of the hotel.

Kartalkaya is one of Turkey’s main winter tourist destinations, attracting thousands of visitors during the ski season. The resort is located about 295 kilometers (183 miles) east of Istanbul.
