A face to face between the police car and the prison bus kills 14 in Namibia

The direct collision in Namibia caused security services vehicles to kill 14 people, including 11 prison service members, a police officer and two civilians.

The accident occurred 270 km (167 miles) south of the capital, Winduk, outside the city of Marinal on Saturday.

“There are no words that can capture the depth of this loss,” President Nyumbo Nandi-Ninda wrote on social media.

Namibia has one of the highest road death rates in the world.

The Minister of Internal Affairs, Lucia Ebumbo, also raised her condolences and thanked those who attended the scene and medical teams at Marinal Governmental Hospital.

“The Ministry strongly appeals to the public to refrain from distributing the sad and sensitive photos and videos taken from the scene of the accident, out of respect for the deceased, the injured and their families,” Namibian newspaper quoted her as saying.

She explained that 19 people were traveling in the two cars.

The police car was carrying six passengers – five officers and civilians – and the Namibi reform service had 13 people on board.

President Nandi Ndita said that three other prison officers remained seriously injured.

“We wish them full strength and recovery,” She said.
