the name Eli Craig You may not ring a bell immediately, but all kind lovers know Taker and Diel for evil– Craij 2010 horror comedy About a pair of good boys who are accidentally exposed to the two pirates as lists, in a movie that enjoys great pleasure in each of the forests. The last candidate for the classic position is about to hit the theaters: Clown in the corn fieldA wonderful story in a small town in the middle west that you see … Well, see the title.
IO9 got an opportunity to talk to Craig about clowns, corn fields, and comedy, and why he prefers horror stories that weave amazingly deep topics under each spray.
Sherrill Edi, IO9: Clown in the corn field It contains some funny viewers (funny address), but it is really more clear than sabotage. How did you get close to finding the right tone while directing it in a lower direction than the comedy forward from your previous films?
Elie Craig: I always think that I am surprised by people, as I think, and start with the title – the opposite and the surprising. This film contains these deeper emotional elements than both the title, but even the film’s tone suggests. I like to make films that deepen somewhat and do not take themselves seriously at the same time. The title raises my interest. I made a movie called A little evil With both a clown and an atom field in it. And I thought, well, it’s time to assemble these two elements together.
There is a comedy in this movie, but it is really like a horror comedy. The moments of the comedy erupted and took it away from terror and movement until they stood somewhat alone, so that they do not walk on each other. It was a conscious decision because I really love the action movies and I do not want people to always think of him as a really funny man. But I think they may still think of me (this way) a little, so we will see.
IO9: Clowns is the main component of the beloved horror, however Clown in the corn fieldFrendo has the additional layer of being the amulet for companies as well. How did these two elements combine together to formulate the character we see in the movie?
Craig: I love the background of Frundo this institutional amulet that was a seller of Baypen Corn in the 1930s and 1950s in Kettle Springs. We wanted a clown design that was a kind of banned happiness, but over the years it has grown more evil. There is only this metaphor for America there for me. This movie is very American. Its headquarters is located in this small city in the state of Missouri, which has spent a long time due to the operation of corn syrup in the 1940s and 1950s, and it has now fallen into a state of population.
We wanted the clown to simulate it somewhat. The anger that comes from the loss of a lot, from a lot of economic hardship, is based on an evil smile of the clown. This is a large film about this gap between generations, and some anger that comes from Frendo to the younger generation.

IO9: I would have asked you about the generation gap that we see in the movie. I mentioned earlier that it was important to be more than just a clown killing people. Why was it important for you to make sure that there is a foundation in its place?
Craig: For me, I am always looking for something deeper. I am a strange person, a deep person. Even with Taker and DailPerhaps one in 10 people may go, “Oho, it’s really a movie about classic and social class.” I love to tamper with deep topics. I have always loved a kind of existential philosophy and the theater of tampering. And if I can combine the two and have a truly fun movie, you can look twice and think, “Wait a minute, this movie is actually about things that are deeper than the surface” – this is always my goal.
IO9: The film contains a kind of old technology/new technology to go with that – children who make YouTube videos is a hobby that the elderly people do not understand; There is also a permanent deficiency in the Wi -Fi or cell service, and the main personality is learning to lead the turning of the stick, etc. Was the circular phone scene a real reaction?
Craig: Yes, it was really. I was always thinking about this movie about how to move the old against the new, and that the older generation did not really know how to use new technology and the younger generation did not know how to use old technology. All these things I reached while we were moving.
As much as the reaction that goes to the phone, much of this was just a discovery – I wrote something about it, but I discovered how it would be organic a day. How will they make it natural and not like a joke? Because for me, I want to play all of my jokes as a very real reaction and not like someone who had a funny line to say in the text program.
So when Cassandra Puttza, who plays the role of Janet, and Katie Douglas, who plays the role of Queen, there, you like, “Just work with the phone. Just try to know how you’ve connected to this thing.” They got this, so there are little improvisation and a little expectations that they will not discover it. So it starts naturally and very real.
IO9: We talked about the clowns. But corn fields have a long and narrated history of terror. What do you think is the most creeping thing about the corn field? What is the biggest challenge that comes with filming in it?
Craig: Well, the most false thing in the corn field is that it grows longer than your head. During about 30 seconds in the corn field, you can get lost. The first time I launched a scene, only one night A little evil In the corn field, I had a crew member who wandered to go to the bathroom and did not return. They have somewhat lost there. I learned a lot – that corn stocks look like another.
So when we run through the atom, we can run back and forth through the same part of the atom, as long as it does not seem to be damaged. We pass, damage a part of the atom, then put this row and pass through another section. The most difficult part of dealing with everything that is – well, multiple things. One is that the atom is actually a type of sharp. She has these abrasive edges. So when actors run through it, they cut their hands, and you can get a little atom in their eyes, scales and things. So there is a joke there (Verity Marks) like Rooney, “Ah, this atom hurts me!” It is something I wrote because we were shooting, people like “Ah, this atom hurt me!”

I wanted to put it there in a funny way. It is muddy and there is weather. Sometimes it was like a minus 10 or 20 degrees because we were shooting in Winbyg. So there is all that, and the bug – it’s brave there!
People sometimes look at Hollywood because this group of primas that, such as, you meet there. But everyone in this movie was very harsh because he is four in the morning, and it is 10 degrees, all of whom cut off their body from running through the atom. And if you pass through the mud that fills your shoes; You can not even get any traction because all clay goes down your shoes. So everyone in this was just extremists. You will be surprised.
IO9: And Clown in the corn field Book your movie depends on two sequences – are you thinking about making a complement movie?
Craig: Even before I photographed this book, I read the second book and discovered a link from this movie (which went) to the second book. And then, of course, when someone has three really good books and has a chain, and I love Adam Cesar as an author, it is exciting to think about what can come after that.
IO9: Wonderful, maybe Cross with Tucker and Dale?
Craig: I know-Tucker & Dale vs. Clown in the corn field. (Laughs) I think there are a lot of possibilities. I knew I had to grow my career from the world of comedy horror to get a chance to make more films. So we hope this people will see that I am more capable of one thing. Then maybe I will do Taker and Dail 2. We’ll see.
IO9: I hope this will happen!
Craig: I think it will be the first feature film for me and my last feature feature. Taker and Dail 2And we will all shoot him – I will be an old man with a cane “work!” And Takr and Dael (both will be) the elderly men who pass through a supplement. (Laughing.) Or sooner, as you know, who knows – if this movie works well, it will help me make more films. So go to see him!
