Jawbreaker candy is known for its hardness, often resulting in injury if bitten immediately. A college student from Canada recently experienced the literal truth behind his name.

Javiria Waseem, a 19-year-old student, found herself in hospital with a broken jaw after trying to bite into hard candy. As a result of the injury, she was unable to eat solid food for more than a month.

While shopping with a friend, Javiria Waseem stumbled upon the famous Jawbreaker candy, known for its rock-hard shell and massive size — some are nearly the size of a snooker ball.

“We got a giant one, the biggest they have,” Waseem said. the people magazine.

Before biting into this enormous dessert, the duo asked the shop owner if it was safe to do so. But when Waseem decided to give it a try, things quickly went downhill.

“I bit it and it just made a hole, and my jaw started hurting,” she explained. Her friend immediately noticed that one of her teeth was loose, while another appeared damaged in front.

Moments after the incident, Waseem and her friend called an ambulance when they realized the damage extended beyond her teeth. At the hospital, X-rays and CT scans confirmed the worst: her jaw had been fractured, requiring emergency surgery the next day.

“I was crying a lot; “Everything was a blur,” Waseem said. the people magazine.

During the one-hour procedure, surgeons restored her jaw, applied retaining tape to her upper and lower gums, and closed it with wire for six weeks, the doctor said. Daily Mail.

She explained: “I had to have surgery. They put my jaw back in place and put a rod in my upper and lower gums and closed it with wires.”

Waseem, still shaken by the ordeal, reflected on her experience, saying: “I used to suffer from jaw crushers when I was a little girl, but I had never seen anyone bite an adult.”

Unfortunately, the challenges of a liquid diet and the consequences of surgery led Waseem to give up sweets completely.

Determined to raise awareness, Waseem is now warning others of the dangers of eating crushers, hoping her ordeal will serve as a warning to prevent similar injuries.
