Brazilian police said on Sunday that they thwarted an attack on the bombs planned for the historic Lady Gaga concert, which attracted more than two million people to the Copakabana Beach in Rio de Janeiro on Saturday.

Civil police in Rio de Janeiro, which works in coordination with the Ministry of Justice, said the plot was organized by a group that enhances hate speech and extremism, including self -harm and violent content as a form of social affiliation.

According to the Rio City Hall, 2.1 million people attended the free concert of the American pop symbol.

“The suspects were recruiting the participants, including the palace, to carry out coordinated attacks using improvised explosives and Molotov cocktails,” the police said in a statement.

The Ministry of Justice said that the recruits have identified themselves as members of the global fans base in Gaga, known as “small monsters”.

The operation was based on a report issued by the Ministry’s electronic operations laboratory after obtaining information from Rio State Police, which revealed digital cells that encourage violent behavior among adolescents using encrypted language and extremist symbolism.

A man described as the group’s leader in the southern state of Rio Grande Sole was arrested to possess an illegal firearm, while a teenager was arrested in Rio de Janeiro to store pornography for children.

The authorities have carried out more than ten of the orders of research and increase throughout the states of Rio de Janeiro, Matto Grosso, Rio Grande de Sol and Sao Paulo.
