A 7.1 magnitude earthquake strikes China’s Tibet region near the Nepal border

A 7.1-magnitude earthquake struck western China near the border with Nepal on Tuesday, according to the US Geological Survey.

Chinese official media reported that the earthquake occurred shortly after 9 a.m. at a depth of 6.2 miles in Dingri County, China’s Tibet region. State-run Xinhua News Agency He said there were deaths In at least three towns.

Several aftershocks were felt in the region, including Nepal.

The epicenter of the earthquake was recorded in Shigatse, the second largest city in Tibet.

The Himalayan region is prone to strong earthquakes. In 2015, a 7.8-magnitude earthquake in Nepal killed nearly 9,000 people.
