Manchester United midfielder Christian Eriksen says he expects the club to leave this summer at the end of his contract.

Eriksen, 33, has played nearly 100 games for the club since he signed from Brentford in the summer of 2022.

He wants to continue his career in Denmark in the World Cup next year, so he ruled out the return to his country of origin – at the present time.

He said: “I have not heard anything from the club, and therefore I assume that the cooperation will stop.

“The contract ends this summer, and I am ready to find something new.

“I am waiting and see what offers come. I will not make any hasty decisions, but if the right thing comes, I will go into it.

“The intention is not to stay in England and will not go to the United States, we will not go to this extent.

“My ambition is still playing with the national team, and therefore I don’t feel that it is time to return home.”

Eriksen collapsed after the heart stopped during the euro in 2021, but he recovered completely and played every minute of the 2022 World Cup in Denmark.

He has a record number 140 capsules for his country and scored 43 goals – only nine behind the record that Paul Nielsen and former Newcastle man John Dal Thomason shared.
