A nightclub fire in northern Macedonia leaves 59 dead and dozens of injury

The fire broke out through a packed nightclub early Sunday in the northern Macedonian town of Kokani, killing 59 people and wounding more than 100, after Sparks set the ceiling over a live band.

Interior Minister Pan Toskovsky said that arrest orders were issued to four people regarding the fire. Government News Agency Mia said that the police had detained the club owner because of the accident.

A video clip of this event, which was verified by Reuters, showed a group playing on the stage surrounded by the presence of flares that release white sparks in the air, and some weaken the ceiling.

The fire caused immediate panic, and friends and loved ones were separated when people fled to the exits.

“Everyone was trying to save themselves,” said Naji Mariga Tasifa, 22, told Local TV 5.

While she tried to escape, she fell slightly on the ground and ran her, leaving her with an injury to her cheek. In the rush, she lost her contact with the sister, who is still missing.

“We cannot find it in any hospital,” she said.

Palace among the injured

The Minister of Health, Arbin Tarafari, said that 148 people were transferred to the hospital in Scopy, Kokani and the surrounding cities. Tarafari said eighteen people were seriously injured.

The MRT broadcaster in northern Macedonia said that 27 people were taken to the hospital at Skopi City Hospital with severe burns, and 23 others were treated at the bed center. Among the injured were minors.

Toshkovsky said that the fire, which started at about three in the morning, was due to the “fireworks devices” that sparked the fire.

Ljupco Kocicevski, the public prosecutor in North Macedonia, said five actors in the accident will be achieved in the accident.

“At the present time, orders were issued to collect evidence,” said Cochevski.

TV clips from a local broadcaster showed that firefighters formed the charred and smoking entrance to the night pulse club, where ambulances rushed from the scene. Reuters pictures showed the roof of the club’s curriculum in the club burning and collapsed in places, and its internal wooden beams are exposed and consistent.

“This is a very difficult and sad day for Macedonia! The loss of many young lives cannot be compensated, the pain of families, loved ones and friends is not measured,” said Prime Minister Hréstejan Mikusky on Facebook.

After a visit to a hospital in Scopji, the North Macedonian President, Jourana Siljanovska Decova, wearing black and combating tears, said the authorities are ready to do everything to help all of them affected.

“I simply cannot understand this … What a catastrophe, what a tragedy.”
