party vsa mixed reality social party game from Shell gameslaunching today exclusively on the Meta Quest 3 and Meta Quest 3S virtual reality headsets.

It’s a weird game where players in virtual reality can throw balls at each other in a game of ball tag and participate in over a dozen other goofy mini-games. The game costs $10 and is available now in the Meta Horizon Store, or it’s free with a Meta Quest+ subscription.

Developed by Shell gamesParty Versus, the studio behind Among Us VR and the I Expect You to Die series, brings a new level of social gaming. Party Versus invites players and their friends around the world to play over a dozen mini-games in a shared virtual space for 2-4 players who want to have casual, goofy mixed reality fun.

Party Versus is more than just a party game – whether you’re playing Sticky Potato, Spike Attack or Milky Way Moovers, there’s plenty of fun and mayhem to be delved into in this wacky multiplayer experience. Play over a dozen goofy mini-games (and totally twisted versions, too) that will have you and your friends laughing your way to the coveted neon party crown.

“Party Versus is all about creating memorable gaming moments with friends and family, but in a way that’s never been done before by blending the real world with the virtual so you can play with anyone, anywhere,” said Jesse Schell, CEO of Schell. Games, in a statement: “We can’t wait for players to experience the fun, creativity, community, and pure chaos that is Party Versus.”

This highly social game is the next evolution of standard in-person game nights. Players hop into Party Versus and immediately go to the Party Lounge, and when the party starts, each player’s room merges into a cohesive mixed reality environment. This reality-bending setup allows players to bring their own real-life furniture into the action where they can bounce objects off the walls or crouch behind their couch, creating an immersive and interactive experience that showcases the potential of mixed reality.

Here’s a sample of the many fun minigames in Party Versus:

  • Hot Potato: Hurry to get the hot potato out of your room before it explodes! Since your friend’s room is now part of the game, throw it behind his bed or on top of his sofa, and make him work for it! The potatoes continue to multiply, ensuring a frenzied result.
  • Spike Attack: In this dodgeball-like mini-game, get your ammo from spawn points located throughout your room but be prepared to take cover! Once your opponents throw at you, the balls sprout spikes and can’t be caught anymore (just deflect!). Watch for the high-value golden balls that appear near the center of the four rooms and time them correctly so you can grab them without getting hit.
  • Pop Pals: In this fast, team-based balloon-popping race, work together to pop the balloons the fastest. Arrangement Numbered balloons are divided between your room and your teammate’s room, so communication is key. Each balloon is worth points, but complete a group to get a reward and prompt the next higher group to appear.

A new way to celebrate

You can choose your own game mode in Party Versus. Modes include:

  • Party Playoffs: Players compete against their friends for the party crown with over six types of mini-games. Winner takes all in both free-for-all and party minigames.
  • Quick Party: Choose any of the mini-games for everyone to play together
  • Make new friends: Play with your friends in a private party, or find a public party to make a group of new friends
  • Mixed Reality Dazzle: Integrate games directly into your play space, but turn your room into a mixed reality party – even the furniture will be part of the action. Quick, beware of those hot potatoes behind your couch.
  • Winning Party Favors: What’s a party without gifts? Win mini-games to win sticks, glow sticks, and torches for yourself or to share with friends.
  • Get Twisted: Some minigames will come with a Twisted mode – meaning you can play upside down, or see your friends’ rooms completely upside down.
