The scene of senior Russian and American officials about an unusual giant negotiating table.
For many, and most of all Ukrainian, it will be very difficult to take it.
In the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Moscow achieved a big thing: Three years after the comprehensive war on its neighbor and its isolation by the West, it returned to the “supreme table” of global diplomacy.
Not only that, Russia has searched for the whole world as the person was calling.
Although the alarm sirens continue to sound throughout Ukraine, this is exactly the image that Moscow wants.
This was not defeated Russia, and forced the negotiating table. It was more like the United States inviting the aggressor to determine its conditions.
It is true that American officials went to this process, saying that they want to feel that he is Russia, and to verify whether it is serious in peace.
But Donald Trump has already extracted his conclusions. Last week, after he spoke to Vladimir Putin over the phone, he announced that the Russian leader “wants to see people stop death.”
Trump could have responded by informing him of withdrawing all his forces.
Instead, he wants to clearly want an agreement with Moscow to end the war, as the voters promised and moved forward.
After more than four hours of talks in Riyadh, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio appeared for the press and announced that the first steps towards negotiations had been agreed upon, with the formation of teams on both sides.
He concluded that Russia was ready to engage in a “dangerous process” to end the war.
But why was he very sure?
Through the table, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov was still under the imposition of sanctions on what the US Treasury described as a “brutal war.”
When Lavrov met the Russian media, he told them that the United States suggested a stop to attack the energy infrastructure.
“We have made it clear that we were not at risk at all on civil energy supplies and only targeted the direct service of the Ukraine Army,” the minister’s response was.
This is not true.
I had personally walked through the ruins of the civil power stations that were targeted by Russian missiles directly.
This is the country that the United States is trying to deal with, although there are many evidence that it cannot be trusted.
Russia also showed a zero mark to recognize any land: Why, when the Trump administration has already agreed that Ukraine will never join NATO, as it requires Moscow, and will not regain its occupied land?
For this reason, for Ukraine allies, this will not only be a picture of us and Russian officials sitting on the shiny Saudi table that stumbled. It is also how they spoke.
It seems that the “land situation” for future investment is a promise to drop the sanctions: there is no account of the Russian war of aggression, then, only a reward.
This, of course, the nearest first days.
But in Moscow, officials and government media feel the beginning of Russia’s return to the place it believes to belong: face to face with the United States, equally.
