The Cricket Control Council in India is scheduled to elect a new joint secretary during the upcoming Special General meeting (SGM). Rohan Gaitley, the president of the Delhi and Cracite Association in Delhi (DDCA), is widely considered the candidate who takes the role of the joint secretary between BCCI, according to IANS.

The position of joint secretary at BCCI was vacant since Divajit Sikia’s upgrade to the Secretary in December 2024, after the election of Jay Shah, President of the International Criminal Court. According to BCCI regulations, vacancies must be filled within 45 days, and BCCI has set a special general meeting on March 1 in Mumbai.

The council officially informed all the state’s associations on the upcoming elections, as the only agenda was the appointment of the new joint secretary. A notification was sent to the private public meeting, to be held at 12:00 pm on March 1 at the BCCI headquarters in Mumbai.

“A notice was submitted by this for a special public meeting for BCCI, which will be held at 12:00 pm on March 1, at the BCCI headquarters in Mumbai, to treat election work and incite them to the joint secretary of BCCI,” the Apix Council said in a statement.

The next public meeting will be the second in less than two months. The former SGM, which was held on January 12, witnessed Devajit Saikia as an election as a trustee and Brabetig Singhia as a box secretary, both without opposition.

Sikia had earlier evacuated the role of the joint secretary after his promotion to a secretary after the departure of Jay Shah. BCCI adhered to 21 days mandatory notification to hold this meeting.

Rohan Gaitley appears as the strongest competitor to the role of the joint secretary at BCCI

President of the former Cricket Association in Bengal (CAB) Abhishik Dalmia and the official of the Cricket Association in Mumbai (MCA) Sanjay Nike in the race. However, Rohan Gaitley is the strongest competitor to the vacant role due to his administrative experience and its increasing impact within the Indian crochet game.

If elected, the appointment of Jaitley will enhance his position in Indian crochet management. The role of the joint secretary includes the main administrative tasks management and work closely with other members of the Board of Directors to ensure smooth operations.

During the second SGM on the first of March, the India team will compete in the 2025 Champions Cup in Dubai. The tournament will start on February 19, when India is facing Bangladesh in its opening match on February 20. India will play Pakistan on February 23 and New Zealand on March 2, respectively.

The Champions Cup will follow a hybrid model. The matches that include India and the semi -finals will be held in Dubai, while the rest of the championship will be held in Pakistan via Lahore, Rawalpindi and Karati.
